Refurbishing Schools

Across the globe, a staggering 250 million children are lacking in basic literacy skills.

Where war and conflict, natural and climate disasters, economic decline and more have taken hold of a community, it is often the case that the infrastructure isn’t there to support the education of children and adults in need.

At Islamic Relief, we believe that every child deserves a quality education. It’s the key to a brighter future, as it offers the chance to learn critical skills, grow in self- confidence and more, helping to escape the brutal cycle of poverty.

What’s more, not only does accessing education help each and every child build their own futures, but it also impacts on generation after generation within even a single family, even bringing blessings to the wider community.

Part of this work involves refurbishing schools that lack adequate resources to safely house and educate children throughout their learning experience. Every child deserves a safe place to play, learn and grow throughout their education. Often, schools that are in need of refurbishment have been damaged in what may be already traumatic circumstances for children, including war and conflict. A refurbished school offers children a quality environment for the quality education that they deserve. This involves repairing and restoring classrooms, play areas and as well as making spaces safe for staff and teaching teams – by supporting staff we are supporting those in need, vulnerable children in need whose chance at a safe and quality education could make all the difference to their futures.
