The impact of poverty across the world
In 2021, a staggering 698 million people, or 9% of the global population were estimated to be living in extreme poverty. In economic terms, that’s less than $1.90 a day, while over one-fifth of the global population live below the higher $3.20 poverty line (1,803 million people), and over two-fifths (3,293 million people) live below $5.50 a day.
This means that huge populations across the world don’t have access to even the most basic of necessities, such as food, water, shelter, health and medical care, livelihoods, education, and sanitation. A deficiency in any one of these life-lines has a compounding effect on the lives of so many.
Funding futures is essential to help vulnerable families break out of poverty.
