Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC)

Since 2005, Islamic Relief has been a proud member of the DEC (Disaster Emergency Committee).

What is the DEC (Disaster Emergency Committee)?

When large-scale disasters strike in places that don’t have the capacity to respond, the DEC brings together 15 leading UK charities to raise funds together and respond efficiently.

Founded in 1963, the DEC (Disaster Emergency Committee) has launched more than 73 emergency appeals to help save millions of lives and rebuild communities devastated by disasters.

By bringing together the UK’s leading charities, including Islamic Relief, the DEC has been able to raise upwards of an astonishing £1.7 billion to support those in unimaginable crisis.

The other charities on the Disasters Emergency Committee are Action Against Hunger, ActionAid, Age International, Catholic Agency for Overseas Development, Care, Christian Aid, Concern Worldwide, International Rescue Committee, Islamic Relief, Oxfam, Plan International, Save the Children, Tearfund and World Vision.

How does the DEC work?

When you donate to a DEC appeal, the money goes on to each of the 15 member charities, who then deliver aid through their own operations in each affected area.

Working with the DEC allows us to reduce costs, maximise our reach and operate in a coordinated and mutually supportive way.
