Sudan: Empowering women through grants

Islamic Relief provided grants to 10 Grant Saving and Loan Associations (GSLA)s for micro-finance purposes. The grants were distributed in six targeted localities in Zalingei, Central Darfur State. Each GSLA included 20 women with a grant of $517 per GSLA. The funds were disbursed through the local Saving and Development Bank, which is a local Microfinance Bank in Zalingei.

The women used the funds in agricultural activities, boosting their small-scale trading ventures and re-stocking their livestock with goats/sheep to improve their families’ livelihoods.

Islamic Relief Sudan provided technical support and mentorship to the women, and also conducted home visits to ensure that the funds are used for the intended purposes.
