Gaza: Islamic Relief continues to support vulnerable people as death toll tops 10,000

Islamic Relief is supporting vulnerable people in Gaza with food, water and blankets as the death toll from the ongoing escalation passes 10,000.

More than 10,000 people have been killed in Gaza since the escalation began, including over 4,000 children, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health. In Israel, some 1,400 people have been killed according to the Israeli government.

In recent days Palestinians have been killed and injured by bombing at or near healthcare facilities in Gaza. Yesterday a Red Cross medical convoy came under fire.

Dangerous conditions have left many Palestinians unable to work and job losses in Gaza and the West Bank are costing Palestinians a combined $16 million each day, according to the United Nations.

Unemployment was a serious issue in Gaza even before the current escalation, but now an estimated 182,000 jobs – equivalent to 61% of total employment – have been lost.

Islamic Relief’s response

Amid extremely challenging conditions, Islamic Relief staff and partners on the ground continue to support vulnerable people in Gaza, whenever it is safe to do so.

We have distributed almost 2.3 million medical items to hospitals struggling to cope with shortages and the high influx of patients.

We have helped to feed thousands of people in shelters with warm meals, fresh vegetables and food parcels.

As water shortages continue, Islamic Relief has provided more than 15,500 people with water, and more than 8,000 with hygiene and dignity kits.

As well as supporting people on the ground, we continue to advocate for an immediate ceasefire and for international law to be upheld by all parties.

Please help Islamic Relief to support and stand up for people in desperate need in Gaza. Donate to our Palestine Emergency Appeal now.
