The best charity is giving water 

Water charity is the most rewarding of all as water is the key to all life. Yet across the globe, a staggering 785 million people are going thirsty every day. Without safe and clean water to drink, these people are at risk of dehydration, disease and at worse: death. Your water donation is a vital means of survival for so many who don’t have access to this basic human necessity.

Every day communities across the globe need safe sources of water for drinking, washing, cooking, rearing livestock and watering crops. Yet for these millions of people, this simple essential is out of reach.

Providing clean water for life

When you provide a water pump or build a well for communities in need of access to safe and clean drinking water, you are helping to provide life.

Water is the source of all life, and by helping communities build and rebuild infrastructure to facilitate clean, safe drinking water and sanitation, you’re not only giving people the means for life, but you’re preventing them from a myriad of terrors that a lack of water poses.

Islamic Relief has been able to provide clean water and infrastructure to over 844,000 people across 19 countries through our WASH projects to enable clean water for life.

Sustainable and innovative solutions, such as our micro dam project provide clean water for communities in Mali, but it also tackles food insecurity by storing rainwater for crops and irrigation. The impact of your water donation is multi-fold.

Fundraising Ideas

Smarties: Buy 20 tubes of Smarties and give them to 20 of your friends. Your one condition? Once they’ve enjoyed the Smarties, they return the tubes back to you filled with as many £1 coins as they can collect in a week. You’d be surprised how much you can raise using this tactic!

Bake Sale: A true classic. How about adding a theme to your fundraiser depending on the cause you’re raising for? E.g. a blue theme if you’re fundraising to provide clean water. Or you could really go for it, and sell other homemade delights alongside your delicious baked goods like milkshakes, smoothies or classic desserts (trifle, cake & custard etc.).

Car Wash: Probably the most fun thing you could do, and all you need is water, a bucket, a sponge and some car shampoo. You could do this at your school or workplace, or you could even ask a local business to let you use their grounds/car park. Try to make it more interesting by doing it in fancy dress and get your family and friends in on all the fun!
