Yemen Crisis: 24 million people need humanitarian aid

Over eight years of conflict have deepened Yemen’s poverty, devastated its infrastructure, and caused widespread hunger and suffering.

Yemen is already one of the poorest countries in the region, with tens of thousands of lives lost and over 20 million people not knowing where their next meal will come from. A country crippled by conflict is sadly now on the brink of famine.

Families are facing ongoing armed conflict, displacement, disease and economic decline, with an estimated 24 million people (80% of the country’s population) now in need of humanitarian aid to survive – a figure so high that it is the highest across the globe.

Yemen now officially hosts the world’s largest human-induced food security crisis.

400,000 children are suffering from severe acute malnutrition, and could tragically die if they do not receive urgent treatment. Following the rapid spread of COVID-19 across the country, Yemen is trying to grapple with widespread food shortages whilst fighting the devastating pandemic.

Your donations can help our teams deliver urgently needed food, medicines and medical supplies.

Fundraising Ideas

Smarties: Buy 20 tubes of Smarties and give them to 20 of your friends. Your one condition? Once they’ve enjoyed the Smarties, they return the tubes back to you filled with as many £1 coins as they can collect in a week. You’d be surprised how much you can raise using this tactic!

Bake Sale: A true classic. How about adding a theme to your fundraiser depending on the cause you’re raising for? E.g. a blue theme if you’re fundraising to provide clean water. Or you could really go for it, and sell other homemade delights alongside your delicious baked goods like milkshakes, smoothies or classic desserts (trifle, cake & custard etc.).

Car Wash: Probably the most fun thing you could do, and all you need is water, a bucket, a sponge and some car shampoo. You could do this at your school or workplace, or you could even ask a local business to let you use their grounds/car park. Try to make it more interesting by doing it in fancy dress and get your family and friends in on all the fun!
