Sheikha Fatima Barkatulla

Bio: Sheikha Fatima Barkatulla

British Islamic scholar (‘Alimah) Sheikha Fatima is an author, Aziz Foundation and Turath Scholar and the presenter of the beloved IlmFeed Podcast.

Sheikha Fatima was enriched with an Islamic education from an early age and went on to study Arabic and Islamic studies in Egypt at the prestigious institutes of Al Fajr Centre, Qortoba Institute, and a college of Al Azhar University. Sheikha Fatima graduated from Al Salam Institute’s Advanced Licence in Islamic Scholarship as well as from the Alimiyyah Programme at the renowned Ebrahim College seminary. Sheikha Fatima specialises in Fiqh, and is currently completing her MA in Islamic Law at SOAS (School of Oriental and African Studies, University of London).

Sheikha Fatima has a well-known presence among British Muslims as well as across the world, having been a key contributor to the discourse surrounding Muslim women in the west. She participated in the Westminster Faith debates, documentaries and live shows for BBC Radio 4, the World Service, BBC Television, Channel 4, and is a regular contributor to both Islam Channel and Eman Channel.

Notably, she is the Director of The Muslim Womanhood Foundation, which hosts Seeds of Change, the biggest Muslim women’s conference in Europe. She was also a Dawah trainer for iERA (Islamic Education and Research Academy), and in 2014 was awarded the IKON UKHWAH International Award for young women in dawah and community service in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Currently, Sheikha Fatima is working on three books, ‘Islamic Family Law’, ‘Women in the Qur’an’ and ‘‘Aisha, Scholar of Islam’, having authored her ground-breaking first book, ‘Khadijah, Mother of History’s Greatest Nation’, published by Learning Roots.

Sheikha Fatima currently lives in London, UK and is also a beloved mother of four.
