Sheikh Mohammad Akram Nadwi

Born in Jaunpur, India, Sheikh Dr Nadwi was trained in the traditional Islamic disciplines and Sharia at the prestigious Nadwat Al-’Ulama. The Sheikh went on to pursue and graduate with a Doctorate in Arabic Literature at Lucknow University. Thereafter, Nadwi travelled to the UK to become a Research Fellow at the renowned Oxford Centre for Islamic Studies. Over the course of 20 years, the Sheikh conducted vital research on the topics of Hadith and Sufi orders in India.

Today, he is one of the Islamic world’s widely recognised and revered authors, and has published in several languages, including Persian, Urdu, English and Arabic. Most notably, Nadwi’s foremost work ‘Al-Muhaddithat: The Women Scholars in Islam is a compilation of some of the most significant contributions made by female Hadith scholars across 1400 years. He has also published several monographs on Islamic jurisprudence and Hadith sciences, as well as reputable futures such as Abu Hanifa and Sayyad Abul Hasan Al-Nadwi.

Sheikh Nadwi is also the co-founder of Al-Salam Institute, where he offers both short courses and Advanced Level modules on the Islamic Scholarship Programme there.

Dr Nadwi was awarded the Allama Iqbal prize for contribution to Islamic thought.
