Taking on Stanage Edge!

Stanage Edge is an impressive landmark, sitting proudly within the undulating landscape of the Peak District National Park. The Edge rises 100 metres above the moorland below and stretches more than 4 miles (6 kilometres) along its top.

This is the perfect challenge for moderately fit first-timers to do with family, friends or alone! Enjoy views of the Dark Peak moorlands and the Hope Valley, while raising funds to provide emergency aid in Palestine.

Provide emergency aid in Palestine

At least 20,000 Palestinians have been killed and more than 52,286 injured. This number is expected to increase rapidly as airstrikes continue. Nearly 50% of deaths are children.

In the Gaza Strip, the strikes are thought to have destroyed tens of thousands of homes, and 4 in 5 people have had to flee their homes. As many are forced to seek shelter in dozens of schools and hospitals, they urgently need food and other basic survival items.

There are also serious health concerns due to poor sanitation and overcrowding. Outbreaks of Hepatitis A have been reported, which is highly contagious and is just one of the growing risks of diseases that civilians in Gaza are exposed to.

To make matters worse, the healthcare system is on the brink of collapse, due to widespread destruction and damage of hospitals. Medical facilities which are in operation are extremely inadequate and overcrowded- with reports of centres holding three times as many patients as their capacities.

As conditions rapidly deteriorate, Islamic Relief remains steadfast in our determination to assist Palestinian families.

We are working closely with our local partners, distributing essential items, such as medical items, fresh vegetable packs, hygiene kits and more to affected families. We are also providing psychosocial support to the children of Gaza.

Fundraising Ideas

Smarties: Buy 20 tubes of Smarties and give them to 20 of your friends. Your one condition? Once they’ve enjoyed the Smarties, they return the tubes back to you filled with as many £1 coins as they can collect in a week. You’d be surprised how much you can raise using this tactic!

Bake Sale: A true classic. How about adding a theme to your fundraiser depending on the cause you’re raising for? E.g. a blue theme if you’re fundraising to provide clean water. Or you could really go for it, sell other homemade delights alongside your delicious baked goods like milkshakes, smoothies or classic desserts (trifle, cake & custard etc.).

Car Wash: Probably the most fun thing you could do, and all you need is water, a bucket, a sponge and some car shampoo. You could do this at your school or workplace, or you could even ask a local business to let you use their grounds/car park. Try make it more interesting by doing it in fancy dress and get your family and friends in on all the fun!
