Airstrikes and shelling in North-west Syria

Monitoring

Hostilities have escalated in Idlib in one of the largest attacks in north-west Syria since 2019. Since 5th October, reports of shelling and airstrikes have resulted in the death, injury and displacement of civilians across at least 50 villages, towns and populated cities including Idlib city, Ariha and Jisr al-Shughour.

At least 36 people have been killed and 201 others injured, including 38 women, 48 children, according to local health authorities.

Continuous shelling and airstrikes have struck more than 1,100 locations in north-west Syria’s Idlib and western Aleppo, including frontline and residential areas. Over 169 attacks have been recorded in the span of four days, resulting in civilian deaths, injuries, and displacements.

The attacks have affected critical facilities and infrastructure including the main power station in Idlib city, 10 schools, health facilities, 5 camps, 3 offices of NGOs, markets, and mosques. At least eight hospitals were struck by shelling with the University Hospital in Idlib bearing the most damage.

Islamic Relief teams in Syria are on the ground and closely monitoring the escalation in the situation. We continue to support vulnerable communities from ongoing projects and those affected by providing medical care and non-food items.
