Over 1.1. million people have been affected by severe ongoing flooding across central and southern regions of the Philippines.

The flooding, caused by extreme rainfall, has seen many families lose their homes and livelihoods. Almost 50,000 people have lost their homes in North Samar alone, which is one of the worst-affected areas.

Families are seeking shelter in evacuation centres, where they face severe overcrowding and limit access to hygiene items.

The flooding has damaged roads and bridges. Crops in the region have also been destroyed. This has had a devastating impact to agricultural livelihoods, which most affected families depend on.

Many have also lost their sources of food as a result, and do not know where their next meal is coming from.

To make matters worse, water system structures have been damaged amid the flooding, including wells and water pumps, leaving families without access to clean water.

Two powerful earthquakes of magnitudes 7.6 and 6.4 also hit Mindanao in the Philippines. 188 houses are reported to have been partially damaged and 36 fully damaged.
